We’ve announced that in view of pedestrian safety, e-scooters are no longer allowed to be ridden on footpaths. You can continue to use them on cycling paths and Park Connector Networks (PCNs). To help users adjust to the new regulations, warnings will be issued during the advisory period which will end on 31 Dec 2019. From 1 Jan 2020, strict enforcement action will be taken against those caught riding an e-scooter on footpaths.
We are building more cycling paths around the island to continue supporting Active Mobility as a mode of transport and will intensify our efforts where possible.
To assist food delivery riders who are affected by the ban, we also introduced the Transition Assistance Package. The Package includes a $7 million grant to help riders transition to other devices (e.g. bicycles, Power Assisted Bicycles, and Personal Mobility Aids). It also provides job matching services and short-term financial assistance.
