Imagine driving around in the car park for the past 10 minutes before you found a perfect lot where you can park.
As you were reversing into the lot, your car’s parking sensors started buzzing off.
You looked into your side and rear mirrors only to realise that it wasn’t any pillars that were triggering the sensor, but a person that was standing right behind your car, stopping you from reversing into the lot.
This is what a driver encountered along 8 Jiak Chuan Road a few days ago.
What happened in the Video
In the mere 30 seconds video that received more than 300 comments and over 100 shares, a woman was seen knocking on the back of a black car that was reversing into a parallel parking lot.
It was obvious right away by most viewers that the lady was trying to stop the car from reversing into the lot while “reserving” it for another car.
Woman knocks on black car and car decides not to park
Despite the woman standing in the way of the parking spot, the black car continued reversing.
In response, the woman took it a step further and began knocking vigorously on the back of the car to prevent it from reversing any further.
The knocks were hard enough to be audible in the video itself.
Eventually, the black car came to a halt before driving away.
Audi driver seen opening car door
As the black car began to move away, the grey car which later identified as a grey Audi, could also be noticed with its car door open.
While we cannot be certain of the driver’s intention, we are relieved that the situation did not escalate after the black car drove away.
Grey car attempted to cut over from opposite lane
In the latter part of the video, the grey Audi which was assumed to be the car that the woman was reserving for can be seen cutting from the opposite direction attempting to make its way into the lot.
“Let him park already take pic send to LTA, say he park against the flow of direction.” one netizen commented
While another netizen commented “Hey Audi, no U-turning”
Netizens against such action
While some netizens acknowledged that the Audi driver might have spotted the parking lot first, the majority of netizens agree that reserving the parking space with one’s body is distasteful.
Furthermore, some netizens commented that the black driver should have ignored the lady and simply reversed into the parking space.
Drivers getting creative to “reserve’ parking lots
Such incidents of people “reserving” car lots have been a prevailing issue with many of such cases surfacing online.
Just a few months ago in March, a man was seen using his body to chope the parking lot for his friend while sipping his drink.
In other instances, drivers have been observed using physical objects like dustbins to reserve parking spaces, while one driver has resorted to using potted plants.
You can play a part too
While situations like this can be annoying, we hope that videos and articles such as this one, can help highlight unpleasant encounters and discourage such actions from occurring.
