You board the bus hurriedly, because you are rushing to get home after a long day at work. Then, you realise the bus seems to be travelling super slowly and you get impatient, really impatient.
Surely, your likely response is to blame the bus driver for being incompetent.
Some of you may even confront the bus driver, like this uncle.
However, most of the time, it is NOT the bus driver’s fault.
According to You-tuber GlitchFan2428, the reason for this can be traced back to 2014, when the LTA rolled out an equipment installed on all public buses. The equipment helps to track the location of all buses in Singapore and to relay traffic information & advisories to bus captains.
This helps to optimise bus timings.
However, the problem ensues when the gaps in timing become inconsistent, and bus captains will be instructed to slow down.
If they do not comply with instructions, they may suffer penalties such as losing their bonuses.
So the next time you take the bus and feel it’s travelling too slowly, take some time to understand why.
Instead of blaming the bus captain, maybe thank them for helping you reach your destination safely.
