Waymo, the self-driving division of Alphabet(Google), is about to put more passengers its fully driverless minivans. It’s a sign that Waymo is growing confident enough in its technology to increase the frequency at which it allows passengers to ride in autonomous vehicles without a safety driver behind the wheel.
Waymo’s fully driverless vehicles are doing passenger trips in the suburbs outside Phoenix, Arizona. But more importantly, it got us thinking about what it means when Waymo says the future is driverless, and what we lose when we eliminate human driving.
The future is now.
