In a CNA interview, Singapore’s minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan espoused the key considerations behind whether to open the causeway borders.
The key concern is public health.
Considering the world’s busiest land crossing is between Singapore and Johor, we need to work out a great deal of details to protect the public health of both Singaporeans and Malaysians.
He said the opening up will be in steps, with protocols such as contact tracing in place.
When asked for a specific time, he did not give a fixed time, but instead elaborated on what must be done before the borders can open back up incrementally.
He said: “Give us a few days to weeks”.
